CINSAM Summer 2008 Camp Professional Participation
Request for Proposals from NKU Faculty Members

for
participation in CINSAM summer camps

Proposal Form

CINSAM has evaluated past summer camp operations, expenses, and methods by which these activities and events were planned and delivered.  Whereas no insurmountable challenges have come to pass, this evaluation has revealed opportunities to streamline the whole CINSAM summer “camp season” for the participating NKU faculty members and other professionals as well as for the CINSAM professionals and staff members.  Moreover, it is the sincere hope of CINSAM that this modified plan for opportunities for faculty members to offer their expertise for our camps will entice you to engage in these remarkable outreach activities.  It will relieve you of the drudgery of administrative activities that are time consuming and often frustrating, e.g., scheduling, promotion of the camp/activity, registration, budgeting, to name a few.  Hence, what follows is the plan of action for the summer 2008 “camp season” staging and delivery.  All interested faculty members are asked to propose for incorporation of their expertise in any camp where the individual believes a contribution is possible; past involvement in a camp is neither required nor is such a key to future involvement.  However, creativity is encouraged!

Faculty members are invited to examine the attached list of camps that CINSAM plans to offer this summer.  The schedule shown is tentative but CINSAM believes little change will occur unless space issues drive rescheduling.  CINSAM will manage all of the administrative aspects of these camps including the space reservations, i.e., the scheduling, the curriculum planning with the participating faculty members’ advice and counsel, the promotion of the camps, the registration and arrangements for participation by the expected audience as well as the actual conduct of the camps and post-camp evaluations.  Faculty members are then free to select the areas of expertise wherein they individually wish to offer instruction.  Creativity is encouraged!  The listing is mostly from the past five years’ experience CINSAM experience.  Faculty members who see opportunity to add to the scientific, mathematical, engineering, or technical aspects of any camp are strongly encouraged to offer their idea and their assistance to add this facet of the program to the camp.

Compensation will be computed as has been the followed in the past, i.e., faculty members will be compensated for their contact hours with the camp participates prorated on their nine-month contract salary.  In the case that a faculty member is developing a new facet of a camp curriculum or is making a major modernization and update to the facet(s) offered in past years, preparation compensation will be computed as has been the case in the past, namely by adding a fraction of the contact time when the compensation value is computed.  Hence, when faculty members offer their professional input to a camp, each offering must include an estimate of the contact time needed with the camp participants to deliver the proposed facet of the camp.  Additionally, the new preparation needs and/or update needs must be estimated and included in the faculty member’s proposal.
